My mother made me a quilt to celebrate my Master’s degree

My graduation quilt is lavender and seafoam, creamy colors

Lavender is the plant she gave me,

(the smell of which contents me)

Seafoam the true color in my English Channel ferry story

The lavender and seafoam mark the quilt as mine

English colors for my English degree

Creamy warm colors, the quilt is a symbol

of her warmth wrapping round me

The quilt is part my mother and part me

Separate pieces, different angles,

varied colors came together as one

Her time and her talent mix with my colors and my milestones,

Sometimes we stitch what we cannot say.
